Skimming the blog...

John doesn't like to read entire things...meaning he doesn't like to read a whole paper or a whole article or a whole book. This is why he likes gospel books and non-fiction so much. You can just skim through them and not really read the whole thing. That is a little harder to do with novels which is why (right now because he is busy) he doesn't read too much. However, this habit has gotten a little out of hand. On Sat when I was posting the answers to the questions about me I had been tagged with John asked me what I was doing. I explained to him I was answering questions that Michele had "sent" and asked if he wanted to read them. He said yes and sat down. About 30 second later he got up. I asked if he was done and he said he got the main parts. I asked some more questions and of course, he had just skimmed through much that he didn't even realize that is was about me!!! In fact, I am not even worried about him reading this entry BUT just in case something strange happens and John loses touch with who he is as a person....I love you huh, even if you do skim....

For Goodness Sakes...

It is Monday and Hyrum had school. In our house there is a lot of laundry so the turn over is pretty quick. Between sheets, towels and weekly clothes there is pretty much a load everyday if not two (I've tried to cut back an do sheets every 10 days, that has helped). Anyway, John got the boys ready for school last Wed, Friday and today. This is very nice of John!! It frees up time for me to start the cleaning and laundry earlier ;) This is why I haven't mentioned it to John yet but he put the SAME SHIRT, ALBEIT CLEAN, ON HYRUM ALL THREE DAYS!!! Yes, I washed it every time before he wore but now Hyrum has worn the same shirt to school 3 of the last 4 days of school! Thanks goodness Hyrum's teacher is a man....maybe he won't notice.

So I received my first "tag." I was reading my friends blog and she had a short list of people she wanted to tag and I saw the name Melissa and I thought, "What Melissa do we know?" So I clicked on the name and my blog came up ;) Then I realized that she meant me...hmmmmm....
So here it is.

1. What were you doing ten years ago?
Ten years ago I was back for my first semester at BYU after my mission. In March I had started a new job and in about 2 weeks from now John is finally going to decide that he likes me and admit it to me and himself.

2. Five things on my to-do list today?
  • Laundry
  • Clean up the house for potential viewers
  • Cook dinner
  • Pay tithing
  • Help finish Josh's car for the pinewood derby

3. What snacks do you enjoy?
Chips - Wavy Lays, Oreo 100 calorie packs, Kashi TLC Pumpkin Spice, Black Bean and White Corn Salsa

4. What would you do if you suddenly became a billionaire?
For real a billionaire? Set up trusts for my children and future grandchildren. Pay off every one's student loans (brothers, sister), save the rest for the future and I would give this house to someone in the ward who really needs it. Take some trips and then I might open a Swiss bank account just for fun so that I could say things like "in our Swiss back account...."

5. Three bad habits
  • Chocolate and Chips - they are even better eaten at the same time!!!
  • Over reading - Reading is a good habit but some times I can get carried away
  • Staying up to late - I try to go to bed but I usually like to read...see bad habit number 2
6. Five places I've lived
  • Anaheim, CA
  • Boise, ID
  • Provo, UT
  • Seoul and Pusan, South Korea
  • Austin, TX
7. Five jobs I've had
  • Taught English
  • Work at BYU Studies mostly reception/subscription work
  • Media Play Book Dept.
  • Faneuil Research - Office Manager
  • McKay Education Library
8. Five things people don't know about me
I don't know...I am really not that interesting so there are barely 5 things to KNOW about me let alone 5 things to not know :)
  • I actually lettered in Drama in high school along with soccer, basketball, volleyball, softball and science.
  • I broke a butterfly swimming record in Boise that had stood for 15 years and although I am pretty sure someone has broken my record now it at least made it about 8 years.
  • I have seen the video Rattle and Hum at least 250 times, I stopped counting around 270...grades not so good my freshman year!
  • I won 50 games of freecell in a row and then gave it up. It isn't that hard to do, you just have to practice a lot before you start a streak!
  • In my whole life I have only beaten my brother Brant once at any nintendo game. It happened one time when we did a round of about 50 races on MarioKart and I got a lightening bolt 3 times in one race. He won the other 49 and the hundreds of other games we have played. Is it because I am that bad at nintendo you ask? No, it is because he is that good! On a side note, I did beat him at Wii bowling this last trip to Utah so I guess that is two times in 3 decades I have beaten him :)

I think it would be fun to hear the answers to these questions from Eldon, Stephanie, Tonia (if she sees this), Jet and Janine

It just takes one...

Since we have been trying to sell the house I have had a few people say that I shouldn't worry and it just takes the one right person. I only need one person to like it and make the offer, etc. This always makes me laugh inside because this is exactly what John has been telling his brother Joe about getting married for the last few years. "Don't worry Joe, it just takes one person to like you." Let's just hope our "one" comes a little faster than Joe's "one." I think it took him about 3-4 years of really worry, we are just hoping for 3-4 months!

It's our anniversary and one of the few we will have actually spent together. Out of the 9 so far we have only had 1 that we were really together. John has been traveling every year at this time. However, it really isn't important that you are together on your anniversary day...what is really important is that you keep having them!!

Why John's PhD has backfired!!

Why has John's PhD backfired? Well, I'll tell you. Back when John was young he had all these crazy ideas about what he might want to do. Many people had given suggestions based on what they considered John talents and gifts so John was a little confused. After a while he started narrowing things down and he realized that he really loved science, especially chemistry and microbiology. He thought about getting a job after college. Then he realized that would take a lot of work so he decided on what he thought would be easier, a PhD. It's a lot easier to find a PhD program than a job. Although the PhD hasn't been a picnic, we still think a job will be harder. The problem with the PhD is that instead of escaping a big job it really just insures that you will have a big job. Now, after all these years of trying to avoid large amounts of responsibility, John has the one job that he never wanted because it was too overwhelming, a professorship ;) Good thing he really does love research...

Prince tradition...

According to Prince tradition here are a few fun pictures.
First off we have the traditionally "best looking" in the Prince family (although there were some strong objections to other boys being left out) - Edd and Eldon
Second comes the traditionally "strongest and strongest pound for pound" - John and Dan
Then we have the ever favorite, tallest to shortest - Scott & John, Eldon, Dan, Edd and Dallan
And last but not least the darling ladies of the family!

Yep, he's 8 years old which would make John and I about 25 ;)

Attn: My Family

So I know this will really interest my family...visiting states is kind of a hobby with them. As you can see, I only have 14 to go. I think my dad has finished them all. He can start working on countries!

I like humidity and I don't like dry skin. I was all itchy in Utah because it was sooo dry and you can see a lot more wrinkles. The problem is that humidity isn't readily available in places that aren't hot. I really hate hot. I guess a person just has to choose. Pleasant and comfortable and smells nice and no bugs and no dangerous reptiles and lovely leaves in the fall and dry skin or muggy and swampy smell and dehydration and a preview of what it will be like when insects take over the world and humidity. I really don't like wrinkles but I really love fall leaves.

Well, we drove back from Provo to Austin over the weekend. Even though we went through 4 states and it took about 2 days with sleeping, the hottest temperature of the whole trip was when we reached Austin after the sun had gone down. Texas is warm ;)

We love baby Sophie

It looks like Sophie is going to be just as popular as her other cousins in our family. The boys loved her!! I told Stephanie she would need a bath from all the kisses she got. It was a fight the whole time over who got to hold her. Even Seth wanted a turn. I am not sure Sophie will return the favor and adore us after all the extra attention.

It actually snows somewhere...

It is hard to believe sometimes when you live in Texas that is actually snows but it does here in Utah. Today there was the tiniest flurry and the boys went nuts. They started jumping up and down and yelling "it's snowing, it's snowing." It was such a small flurry that is really only lasted about 5-10 minutes and it was warm so it wasn't much of a display but they were excited!!
BTW, we are in Utah for spring break and John's brother's (Joe) wedding. The drive went pretty well and the boys were really good. Even Seth was good and he was our main concern since he is such an unpredictable variable in our lives. We had a few moments on the when the tread of a tire came off the truck right in front of me and I wasn't able to completely avoid it but I managed to keep from damaging the van. Then John forgot to lock the roof top carrier and it few open but only the coats flew out. We had to stop and run down the freeway to pick them up ;) Also, Seth had a major blowout with his diaper. It was everywhere and we even had to pull off the cushions of his car seat. John took him into a gas station bathroom to try and clean him off in the sink because we could get it all off with wipes. Yes, it was huge. I washed the outfit twice at the hotel that night just to be safe. Other than that smooth sailing.
PS Our house is finally finished being cleaned and painted and up on the market. At least we know it will be clean the two weeks we are in Utah ;)

I am smarter than John!!

Of course, this statement isn't true. I am not even close to being smarter than John and quite frankly, neither is anyone else (unless you include the category of common sense...then we can beat him). Even though I am not smarter than him, there is something on the computer that I can do that John cannot. John didn't even know that it could be done. I have two pages on my homepage. That's right, when I hit my homepage I have two tabs with two different pages that come up. John has been limiting himself to a single blank page all these years. This story would be better if I hadn't come by this knowledge by accident a few months ago. Nevertheless...for a few months I knew something John hadn't even thought of!

Windows vs. Linux - 2 to 1

So Windows and Linux both get a point over the issue of themes, backgrounds and general appearance. One of the reasons John LOVES Linux is the fact that you can change your themes and appearance. On Windows you cannot do that very easily. However, as I have pointed out to John many times, Linux has to be changeable because it is so dang ugly while Windows doesn't need to be changeable because it is quite pleasant straight out of the box. One point for Windows. I needed to change my themes on Linux because I almost had to start using a sunlamp while I was in Linux to stave off the depression of that "sap you soul" gray and "yesterday's lunch" orange. The reason I gave Linux a point was because it nearly killed John to see me select pinks and purples and greens for my themes. Then I went in and changed all the appearances I could to pink and purple. Plus I had the nerve to select a theme that doesn't have a bubble bar!! According to John that is a big no no. So, I had to give Linux a point for allowing such acute torture of John and a little vindication for me ;)

Hilary lost the election ;)

Onion News is always entertaining but this video was beyond hilarious! Also, check out the video on Mitt Romney and tolerance and Courting the Fat Vote...very funny.

Windows vs. Linux - 1 to 0

Look for this to be a continuing theme! Today Windows scores a point. When you go to upload a picture to a website you cannot view the thumbnails in linux. Now, for your regular files of pictures you can view the thumbnails but if any of you are trying to upload a picture to a website then you better have the file name memorized because you ain't going to be seeing it in linux.

Cramping Hands

We are moving soon therefore I have been lifting, cleaning, packing, painting and trashing lots of stuff to get the house read to sell. I should have spent a little time working my muscles because apparently regular life does not require enough cleaning (hard to believe) to strengthen hand muscles for a packing marathon. Yesterday I couldn't really type well because my fingers and palms were actually sore!! I am doing better today but I still let John help with the cleaning ;)
