Stories for Boys

For some reason this song has been stuck in my head. No, this post really has nothing to do with the song and no, you probably haven't heard the song except Tiff. It's a very old, early U2 song. Anyway, this post might be long but I am doing that on purpose to test your true devotion ;)
I understand why people don't read blogs. It is like me and Twitter. I think twitter sounds cool but I already feel "plugged in" with facebook and the blog. I don't feel like adding any more computer to my life. So while I don't have anything but positive thoughts about Twitter I am just happier being less cool. I am sure many people feel this way about blogs (why I don't know but...still...). So I understand that people don't read them but I have to say that it is very annoying when they don't!!
Blogs are such a nice way to distribute information. They aren't for two way contact. They can't really provide that needed acceptance or assurance that you get from two way communication. I mean comments can make you feel like people care but you'll never be fully satisfied if you depend on comments to make sure people like you ;) Blogs, however, are great for keeping connected in a different way. They are like a weekly or monthly Christmas letter which is always fun and wonderful.
My youngest brother doesn't read the blog. This is sort of the point of my post but not the whole reason (stay tuned). This doesn't bother me but it is a little annoying when we get together and my sister and other brother and my sister-in-law are all caught up on pictures and stories and my brother spends the whole time going "What, I never saw that?" "What, when did you do that?" "Josh said what? Math can ride without training wheels...when did that happen?" Of course, with this particular brother it would still probably happen even if he did read our blog ;)
For this reason I have a secret that I think you should only be privileged to if you read the blog. It's like a reward for reading the blog...it's not really a great reward ;) I am sure chocolate would be a better reward but still...
This way when we go and visit in summer you can already feel like you are in the know when it will be a big surprise to others. (Are you feeling special yet?) Plus, there will probably be many who don't bother to read the whole thing (if I was in your shoes I probably wouldn't) so then they won't know either....
I went to my 12 week appointment today. Everything looks good so I figure it's time to spread the word. Obviously I am super sick and although we are happy I think it would be fair to say that Heavenly Father and I aren't on good terms right now. I am sure I will forgive him in December but right now all I have to say is "WHY???" At least it isn't twins. Was it worth all that reading? Probably not...
I am due the first week of December. Who thinks it will be a girl this time? The boys all want a girl so they don't have to "share" their toys. John and I don't really care but a secret part of me thinks I wouldn't know what to do if I got a girl...
I am trying to convince Josh to start changing diapers. Five children is a lot! I am glad we don't have to get a different vehicle but we may need to get therapy if I live through this pregnancy ;)
Happy Thursday...this is my longest post ever!!

Congrats! I mean, my apologies...for now...

Maybe someone should tell your boys that it is much cooler to have an uncle who reads your blog than an uncle with a light saber on his iPhone...

I won't give anything away in the comments; everyone should enjoy reading the whole post. Good job stealing Brant's engagement thunder...

Congrats. As my co-worker always says, the Osmonds finally did it (think Marie), so I guess it is possible.

Granted, I don't know what the boys would do if it were. I don't know if Seth would be able to grasp that girls don't like trucks as much as he does and perhaps Matt would get upset if a girl didn't play Wii with him. ;)

On a side note - U2 song please?! So unfair! P.S. I have a great U2 B-sides collection for us to listen to this summer.

Way to ruin it Jet... Now Brant will skip straight to the comments and he won't even get to enjoy Melissa's mockery of him... Sheesh...

If it's a girl, her dating life will be brutal. She'll have to get clearance from: Dad (and maybe Mom), Grandpa, two uncles, and four older brothers. I wonder who would be most protective. Hyrum?

YAY!! I will pray that you will either die or be rid of the sickness. My heart goes out to you. OK, I just you tubed the song, wow, one version has Adam in it where one comment says "He looks like a 40 yr old woman." Yes he does. Great song, but now my water for mac & cheese (our staple) has been boiling for about 20 min. Good luck. Stop having sex.

Tiff...I just looked up the youtube video. Wow, Adam did have some nice hair. I pretty much watched all of Boy. Can you imagine what college would have been like if youtube had been around? I guess we wouldn't have had to spend so much time trying to get a hold of bootlegs but we would have wasted so much more time. We are lucky we turned out so "normal."

Congrats, Melissa!

I got to the part that said "most people won't read past this" and I still had no idea what I was about to read!! I'm hoping that it will be a girl because then Sophie will have another girl cousin. Knowing our chances, our future children will all be boys, so then you can inherit Sophie's cute clothes. ;) I am beyond excited!! And I like knowing something that others don't. ;)

Totally worth it to read such wonderful news!!! Congratulations!!!! So happy for you and John and the boys!

First I have to agree that I like blogs. I like being able to just quickly get a glimpse of what far away friends or family are up to. I don't even do Facebook, I felt like it would take up too much extra time, plus the format sort of drives me nuts.

As for your other news, I know you always felt terrible while being pregnant (I didn't enjoy the pregnant part all that much either)...but it is good news. It seems like the Prince family has a pretty strong boy track record, so it will be interesting to see. Stay healthy!

Jaz said...

Congratulations!!!!!! I love your honesty. It took me awhile to get used to the idea of being pregnant with my 5th too. May you feel better soon! And may this pregnancy zoom by! It really is FABULOUS news!!!!! :-)

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! What a fun way to share the news!

Haha. Ben and I have decided to try again in July (hopefully non of my family reads this blog). This has been a long discussion with me saying a lot of 'no' but our kids are cute and fairly well behaved and Ben wants one more and I guess it's 50% of his decision (although that is really debatable). If we are successful that would put me due around March so...you have a girl this time and I'll have a boy and we can exchange all the clothes straight across and still be on for the millennium. :)

Yay! congrats!
I'm a big fan of the girl thing, but there are times I look over at the baby boy stuff ad miss what's comfortable.

That's what you get for giving away all of your maternity clothes... do you want any back? I'm willing to give you all my long sleeve tops - which is most of my collection - since you'll probably have more use for them than I do. Oh! and Congratulations!

Allison needs another girl cousin to smother--poor Sophie!

Congratulations! Heavenly Father and I haven't been on good terms for a few years now, so there is room in my boat, I'll scoot over.

And, since I've given away all my girl AND boy things, I guess you'll just have to get something new from us for this baby!

Congrats, Melissa. My mother had a girl after four boys. I will cross my fingers for you too. Although, my little sister is quite the tom-boy.

ajoachim said...

Congrats!!?? Well, you've made my decision to have a fourth easier. What's 4 when there can be 5? I'm so happy for you guys.

Who says she won't like trucks? :)

So, the competition is on: Dec. 1 (name her Jet), Dec. 7 (name her Cindy), Dec. 11 (name her Sara).

that was pretty sneaky hiding your big announcement in that post without even the title to give it away. i know how you feel-- when i was pregnant with emery (not knowing if it was a boy or girl) everyone kept asking me if i was hoping for a boy, and i kinda was, but secretly i was really hoping for another girl since i already was in the girl "groove" and felt like i might not know what to do with a boy! i'm sure that feeling must be magnified for you since you have FOUR of the same instead of just two like i did at the time!

hope you get to feeling better soon! congrats! (has your little bro found out yet?) my family doesn't always keep up on my blog either, but usually my MOM is the guilty party!

Marci said...

hurray for more prince's in the world!! I am so excited for you and hope that you start to feel better and that your list of books gets shorter with this pregnancy.
I think I was most impressed with 20 comments... you are quite the popular soul.

haha, eldon told us because he knew we wouldn't see it on the blog. congratulations! hope the pregnancy part goes well for you this time.

Melissa,
Congrats! I just googled your blog to see when you guys are on your way to Utah. We MUST get together.

PS My sister is having her 5th baby. She has 4 girls and is now having a boy. Maybe it's a good sign . ..

Worth every word!!! So happy for you guys. You've got 4 cute ones already, so boy or girl, at least you know they'll be cute!

I'm shocked! This is great news! You are a wonderful Mom so this new one is going to be very lucky! I hope you get feeling better soon!

looks like you have quite a lot of readers.

congratulations! sorry you have been feeling so sick. that is never fun, and its definitely hard to be excited or happy when you don't feel well. at least you dont' have to suffer through the texas heat. is that any consolation? probably not. i will let you know how it goes with 5 kids, but doesn't look like i'll have much of a lead on you (a week or 2). :)

Ha ha, you really might think that an uncle that read your blogs would be cooler than an uncle with a light saber on his iPhone, but I think Tys your missing the truth running in the background of the details, its infinitely more cool to have an uncle with your same maturity level than an uncle without the same level of gifted juvenilism :)

allyantis said...

Oh and i agree with you Mel about Twitter, personally i believe its a ego booster, Twitter is a place where people can go to say why they are so cool. The tweets are short so you don't have to think much nor to you have support anything you say, cuz well your cool! Nothing says your cool like staying home on Friday nights and writing Tweets. And Shaq does it too so it must be cool, didnt everyone see ShaZam with Shaq in it lol. I defend my hypothesis above with a simple observation.

Nothing says loser like a poster in your room saying, "Your not a loser."

Heather said...

Congratulations. I hope you get a girl they are fun, granted that is where we started.

Sara said...

I'm way slow with my comment (although I found out shortly after Tys read your post), but congrats! (I've seriously been happy for you since I found out - I'm just slow to add a comment)!

Tyson said...

Some might say that nothing says "loser" like writing "your" when you actually mean "you're" (and others would say that the real losers are those who recognize and point out that someone mixed up "your" and "you're").

Anyway, when it comes to a contest of gifted juvenile tendencies, I'm sure I'm right there. Nice try though. Go get a new phone; the light saber works on my Storm now (and I can choose the color of the saber -- and it was free).

Sam said...

Congratulations, you guys! That's great news! (And if you have a girl, don't worry--they're super self-explanatory, except for that part about getting them to sleep.)

Flying Princess said...

YAY! Go you. My girls LOVE playing the Wii and just yesterday everyone was fighting over trucks TOGETHER. Girls can do anything boys can do better. My baby is a wiz with the light saber. I hope you get a girl just to mix it up a little.

Wow that is a record number of comments! I'm number 34 can you believe it!! Congratulations on #5! I wish I could throw you a baby shower and make BIG cream puffs! Do you think we could swing it?

Corrine said...

ok you can't be dropping the P bomb like that with out like a how the heck did this happen post! I have been out of the blog loop for a while, seeing that I haven't had a computer and internet, and stuff well I did but not very often...anyway congrats and WOW! totally surprised but not really though totally scared because you promised me you wouldn't do this again, and for some reason our baby cycles are indirectly directly related....Hope you get the rest you need and take it easy and let the boys run wild...isn't Math going off to kindergarten?? at least you and seth can hang and relax....you need to email me!

Sara said...

Well, I'll have to be honest with you and say that I forgot you had a blog until you made a comment on mine a few months ago! And then I forgot to put your URL into my GoogleReader, so I forgot about your blog again!

Fortunately, I remembered to add it to my read just in the nick of time! Congratulations on your secret news!!! Hm. You and John seem to be destined for boys, and I'm afraid that if you have a girl, she will be extremely spoiled . . . But who cares? Girls deserve to be spoiled because they're better. ;)

Also, I couldn't agree more with you about blog-reading. It doesn't take long to read a post, and it's just nice when somebody cares enough to read. Does John read your blog? Just curious . . . I'm wondering if spouses read each other's blogs . . .
